Within the past few days a core group of Kingwood/ Humble area community leaders have stepped up and brainstormed a unique fundraising community event. The Inaugural “Cookies and Tea under the Tree” will be a cookie exchange festival for families of all ages. This event will be an added activity at the Tree Lighting at Town Center on December 5th.

The purpose of this event is to embrace the local families and business community and to offer a new and different event while raising funds for an annual revolving list of charitable organizations during the holiday season. This is the first annual event and the charity it will be benefiting is Family Time.

May Community Center's free intergenerational programs are part of Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner Jerry Eversole's educational and recreational commitment to Harris County residents. May Community Center is a Precinct 4 community center located at 2100 Wolf Road, Huffman 77336. May Community Center presents a catered holiday luncheon Friday, December 11 at 11 a.m. with entertainment provided by the Starlite Sound Chorus, a local chapter of Sweet Adelines International. Invite a friend, relative, or neighbor to enjoy great food and fellowship at this special holiday gathering.

Take in the sights and sounds of the holiday season at May Community Center and May Park Fridays, December 4 and 11, and Saturday, December 5 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Participants of all ages can enjoy holiday entertainment, brightly decorated Christmas trees, Victorian villages, animated characters, and feel the magic of the holidays unfold during a visit with Santa.

Express Children’s Theatre brings the spirit of the season to May Community Center through a presentation of Rudolph by Alvaro Saar Rios Saturday, December 12 at 10 a.m. Enjoy a delicious pancake breakfast at 9 a.m. prior to the presentation from this lively group of young actors.

Students from other nations will share their native culture, foods, dance and arts with others in a week-long celebration when Lone Star College-Kingwood honors International Education Week, Nov. 16-20. 

Area residents are encouraged to lace up their walking shoes and get ready to walk for a good cause when LSC-Kingwood hosts the American Heart Association Heart Walk and Heart Fest on Saturday, Nov. 14, 8 a.m. to noon at the Student and Fine Arts Building Outdoor Commons area on campus.  

Help raise money and awareness about heart disease and stroke by participating in the 5K Heart Walk. On-site registration for those who do not register in advance will begin at 8 a.m. and the walk   will begin at 9 a.m. The 5K or 3.1-mile course begins on the campus, travels down Kingwood Place to Northpark Drive and then returns to campus. Most walkers should complete the course in 30 to 45 minutes. Participants are encouraged to bring their cheering squad to give them support as they cross the finish line. 

Kick off your holiday shopping AND your holiday charitable giving with a new kind of retail therapy at the Kingwood Women's Club (KWC) Holiday Marketplace on October 26th and 27th at the Humble Civic Center. At the Holiday Marketplace, experience retail therapy with the extra therapeutic benefit of giving to those in need. All, or a portion, of every dollar spent at the Holiday Marketplace is a contribution to one of the many local charitable organizations supported by KWC.
