However, maintaining that beauty takes effort on the part of everyone. In an effort to preserve the beauty and livability of Kingwood, in 2004 the Kingwood Chamber of Commerce started the annual Travis McCormick Kleenwood Day. The event was named for Travis McCormick, who was the head of the Kingwood Service Association for many years and was committed to preserving the natural beauty of Kingwood.
Organized by Rick Alspaugh of Alspaugh Ace Hardware, teams of volunteers are spread throughout the Kingwood villages and commercial areas for a wide spread trash clean-up. The Kingwood Chamber received the Proud Partner Award from the Mayor of Houston as part of the "Keep Houston Beautiful" campaign for it's efforts in Kleenwood 2005. The 2006 event is scheduled for Saturday, January 28th, from 9 am to noon. Residents interested in volunteering may contact the Kingwood Chamber, or simply go to your village pool at 9 am on Saturday. ![]() Teens Clear Trash out of a Kings Point Park Suggested items to bring are:
