Harris County Citizen Corps: Urgent Request for assistance

Harris County Citizen Corps Members,

Today we are going to help those who have been impacted by Hurricane Katrina who are currently located in the Super Dome in . Up to 25,000 citizens are going to be relocated to the Astro Dome. We need your help.

We are requesting volunteers to assist in setting up the dome with cots and other basic necessities. This needs to be completed by 1700 or 5pm CST. We need for you to forward to anyone how can help through your businesses, churches and organizations.

We will also need volunteers to assist in the documentation and check in of all who arrive. CERT Teams will be needed to assist citizens from the busses to the check in locations.

Logistical information with locations and staging areas will be sent out shortly. Please e-mail Mark Sloan MTSloan@itc.co.harris.tx.us to let them know how many people you have that can assist, include time frames, as this time it will be a 24/7 operation.

This task is unprecedented and can be completed with the support of our citizens.

Hurricane Katrina Drop Off locations

A number of local organizations and individuals are coordinating efforts to help out those in Louisiana who are suffering from the devastation of Katrina.

On August 19 and 26 from 10 am – 2 pm there will be a truck for free drop off in front of the City of Houston building located at 3915 Rustic Woods, one block west of West Lake Houston Parkway.

Kingwood Neighborhood Renews Community Spirit

Avery Alvarez and Reese Baldwin Offer Lemonade

Neighbors on the Wildridge block in South Woodland Hills gathered on Tuesday, August 2^nd, to celebrate National Night Out and to reconnect with neighbors.

Woodland Hills was one of the first Kingwood villages to be developed in the late 70’s, following Trailwood. Although early residents of the Wildridge block held neighborhood gatherings, the community was fractured after the oil bust of the mid 80’s. “A lot of people moved away and it was just never the same after that,” explained Sandra Lindsay.

The torch was picked up again when neighbors Brandi Baldwin and Carla Alvarez decided to organize a block party. “We thought it would be a good time right before school started so that kids could get to know each other,” stated Alvarez, “and the tie in with National Night Out was perfect!”
