10/07/2008 - The City of Houston requests that residents
that have any remaining storm debri that needs to be picked up, please
call 3-1-1. This is the City of Houston Service Center.

Hayes encourage Houstonians to move quickly to remove and place
at the curbside any remaining storm debris. Sunday, October
26th is the deadline by which the city can receive full reimbursement
from FEMA for collection and disposal of Hurricane debris.
After Sunday, October 26th, the city may be asked to pay a
portion of the cost.

Mayor Bill White Solicits Additional Ideas on Recycling Tree
Debris from Hurricane Ike
Mayor Bill White announced the start of a competition for additional
ideas on how best to recycle debris from Hurricane Ike. While
the city and its debris collection contractor have entered
into contracts to recycle debris and are actively pursuing
other options, Mayor White desires to tap into industry, academia
and the community as a whole for unique, large-scale ways to
make good use of the tree and woody waste generated by the
hurricane. Cash prizes will be awarded.

Tree Waste from Hurricane Ike Converted into Mulch and Compost
The City of Houston Solid Waste Management Department has partnered
with Living Earth Technology Co. (LETCO) to produce a quality
mulch product called "Living Earth Houston Mulch" which
will be prepared from trees and brush collected from the City
of Houston. This mulch will be available in bulk directly from
Living Earth, and will also be available in bags at Houston
area retailers including Lowe's Home Improvement Centers. LETCO
has agreed to donate to the City of Houston ten cents for every
bag sold and 50 cents for every bulk yard sold. The donated
funds will be used to promote recycling programs in Houston.
