  • Expert and beginner artists can learn how to preserve the beauty of Mercer through art with awardwinning Kingwood artist Betsy Barry Friday, July 29 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Barry will demonstrate how to create images of collected subject matter in graphite and colored pencil during this Drawing from the Garden class.

  • Mercer Botanic Gardens invites new second and third graders to explore the gardens and observe the pollinators that flap, fly and flitter among the flowers during its Butterflies & Bees Camp starting Tuesday, July 21 through Thursday, July 23 from 9 a.m. to noon.

  • A creative new engineering project completed in February at Mercer Botanic Gardens is helping prevent soil erosion along Cypress Creek and serving as a new amenity for residents.

    Mercer Gardens has just released their schedule of events for spring 2011.  From educational classes for adults to story time for children, there is something for anyone.  Also be sure to check out their 2011 Plant Sale and you too can have a little piece of the gardens at home.

    January

    Creating a Personal Garden Sanctuary . Wed., Jan. 26, 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Darnell Schreiber repeats this sensational program where you will learn to create peace and serenity tailored to you in your own garden space. During this three hour session you will be developing your design to match your physical and emotional needs. Bring photos of your garden and a pair of scissors. Class size limited to 24.   • Mercer’s excited to dedicate an area to some of its smallest patrons.

  • It was a labor of love for a group of volunteers at Mercer Botanic Gardens. Volunteers spent the morning harvesting hundreds of pounds of winter greens to donate to the Houston Food Bank.

  • Students entering kindergarten and first grade this year are invited to embark on an adventure through nature during Mercer Botanic Gardens’ A-B-Seeds Camp Tuesday, July 14 through Thursday, July 16.

  • Children and teens are invited to participate in Harris County Public Library (HCPL) services this summer at Precinct 4’s Mercer Botanic Gardens.

  • Volunteers recently gathered at Mercer Botanic Gardens to share the holiday spirit by decorating Mercer’s Visitor Center.

  • Mercer Botanic Gardens hosts an informative and fun presentation each month known as Lunch Bunch! In honor of the Christmas season, December participants enjoyed a craft session, creating handmade Angel ornaments from various dried material, such as a Philippine lily see pod, bread poppy seed pod, butterfly vine winged seed pod and Spanish moss.

  • Mercer Arboretum is excited to announce the 2011 March Mart Plant Sale scheduled for Friday and Saturday, March 25 and 26 from8a.m. to 4 p.m. Members of The Mercer Society (TMS) can shop early at the MarchMart "Members Only" sale Thursday, March24.     Thefirst March Mart plant sale took place 37 years ago as a means to raise fundsfor the arboretum. The first sale consisted of donated plants that local gardenclub members dug up from their yards and delivered in old coffee cans or milkcartons. One of the largest plant sales in Texas, this two-day sale now offersapproximately 1,200 species of plants including annuals and perennials, fruittrees, gingers, herbs, natives, roses, shade plants, trees and shrubs,tropicals, vegetables, and vines.

     

  • Registration is now open for the six-week Tier III course of the Texas Gulf Coast Gardner (TGCG) program, hosted by Mercer Botanic Gardens and The Mercer Society (TMS), a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization.
