Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital Names Healthcare Excellence Awards Recipients

Four Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital employees received the hospital’s 2015 Healthcare Excellence Awards for their clinical expertise, leadership, attention to quality and superior patient care.

The Memorial Hermann Northeast Pharmacy Team was recognized with the Team Award for delivering quality, compassionate and personalized care and education to patients and staff.

Jason Warshaw received the Ancillary Clinical Staff Award; Brenda Walker, PCA, won the Unlicensed Clinical Caregiver Award; Barbara Evans, RN, was honored with the Support Services Award; and Aaron Garza, RN, won the Nursing Award.

Warshaw, the lead special procedure technician in the new Catheterization Lab/Hybrid Operating Room Suite, received the Ancillary Clinical Staff Award for his organizational capability, cooperative attitude and readiness to provide quality care, and for demonstrating healthcare excellence. Warshaw played a key role in the successful opening of the innovative endovascular hybrid suite, designed specifically for vascular and cardiovascular patients.

Walker received the Unlicensed Clinical Caregiver Healthcare Award for patient care. Walker, who holds certifications as a rehabilitation restorative aide and medical assistant, also volunteers as a youth chaperone and is a member of the bereavement committee at her church.

Evans, a clinical informaticist with the Information Systems Department, received the Support Services Award for her focus on safe patient care, ability to integrate technology for hospital and medical staff, and for maintaining patient safety while implementing programs that advance the quality of care.

Garza, a nurse in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab, received the Nursing Award for his exceptional nursing and leadership skills. As a member of the Chest Pain Committee, Peer Review Committee, Resuscitation Committee and Catheterization Lab Council, Garza conducts patient assessments and reviews patient information to ensure patient safety.

The Pharmacy Team received the Team Award for its patient safety efforts.  The team was cited for its meticulous commitment to ensuring the integrity of Memorial Hermann Northeast’s medication process by collaborating with clinical teams throughout the campus, providing education at unit staff meetings, and identifying trends that impact the medications given to patients.

Healthcare Excellence Award recipients are nominated by their fellow employees and chosen by a special employee selection committee that recognizes them at a reception during Hospital Week, May 10-16.
