Looking to learn something new this fall? The May Community Center has a full schedule of classes and activities designed for children to seniors. Get fit, learn a new language, or craft for charity. Rhythm Walking
Weekdays from 8:10 a.m. to 8:55 a.m.
Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 4:10 p.m. to 4:55 p.m.
Start or end your day with a 2 ½-mile walk to music in the comfort of the Center.
Body Toning Chair Exercise
Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 9 a.m.
This exercise class is designed especially for individuals suffering with arthritis, joint aches, stiffness or a lack of flexibility.
Decorative Painting
Mondays at 9 a.m.
Instructor Ann Rose teaches a variety of acrylic decorative painting techniques. Everyone interested in painting is welcome, regardless of previous painting experience.
Party Bridge
Mondays at 1 p.m.
Improve your bridge skills and meet other bridge enthusiasts at these party bridge sessions.
Pinochle
Mondays at 1 p.m.
A volunteer instructor is available each week to teach the time-honored game of pinochle.
Beginning Piano Lessons for Adults
Mondays at 2 p.m.
Fulfill a musical dream by learning to play the piano! Each student receives a 30-minute, hands-on instructional session. A $6 fee for an instructional booklet is required.
East Harris County 4-H Club
Monday, September 10 at 6:30 p.m.
The mission of 4-H Club is to prepare youth to meet the challenges of childhood, adolescence, and adulthood through educational experiences with an emphasis on learning through doing.
Woodcarving Class
Tuesdays at 9 a.m.
Learn how to take an ordinary piece of wood and turn it into a work of art. A carving knife is required and can be purchased for $13.50 (wholesale cost) at the Center.
Blood Pressure and Blood Sugar Check
Tuesday, September 18 at 9 a.m.
A licensed vocational nurse is available the third Tuesday of the month to help participants monitor their blood pressure and blood sugar.
Beginning Computer
Tuesdays at 10 a.m.
Begin with the basics and progress over a four-week period using Microsoft Office 2003 software.
Dart Baseball
Tuesdays at 10 a.m.
No skills are needed to join May Center's dart baseball team.
Karate
New Session Begins Tuesday, September 18
Tuesdays: Beginner juniors (white and yellow belt), ages 6 to 12: 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.; Advanced juniors (orange through red belt), ages 6 to 12: 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Volunteers from the American Society of Karate teach the techniques of American karate. Classes are free! For additional information, call the Center at 281-324-3373. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Diabetic Support Group

Yoga
Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6 p.m.
Certified hatha yoga instructor Cindy Roberts invites people of all fitness levels to participate and experience the benefits of yoga. A non-skid yoga mat is recommended.

Intermediate American Sign Language

Fund-Raiser Craft Workday

Beginner Acoustic Guitar Lessons
Thursdays at 1 p.m.
A volunteer will have you stringing, tuning, and playing the guitar in no time! Students must be 12 and older. Bring an acoustic guitar; no prior experience is necessary.
May Belles and Beaus Chorus
Thursdays at 1 p.m.
This musical group entertains at community events, hospitals, and multicare facilities.
Craft: Scarecrow Wind Chime
Thursday, September 6 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a break for lunch
Create a lovable scarecrow wind chime to greet your fall guests. A $6 suggested donation helps defray the cost of additional supplies. Class size is limited to 10.
Eastern Philosophy Study Group
Thursday, Septembers 6 and 20 at 7 p.m.

Quilting Mini-Retreat
Friday, September 21 from Noon to 3 p.m.
Attend these mini-retreats, held the third Friday of every month, to complete unfinished quilting projects.
May Community Center's free intergenerational programs are part of Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner R. Jack Cagle's educational and recreational commitment to Harris County residents. May Community Center is a Precinct 4 community center located at 2100 Wolf Road, Huffman 77336. Harris County Precinct 4 programs serve people of all ages, regardless of socioeconomic level, race, color, sex, religion, national origin, or physical ability. Anyone requiring special assistance to participate in any program should contact the May Community Center. An adult must accompany children under the age of 18. Childcare is not provided at any Precinct 4 facility, and children are not allowed in classes in which they are not eligible to participate.
