Internationally acclaimed marriage expert and best-selling author Harville Hendrix, Ph. D., will conduct a 3-hour seminar entitled, “A New Way to Love: Living God’s Purpose for Your Marriage” on Friday, February 5 at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Kingwood.
The special appearance by Hendrix, a Clinical Pastoral Counselor, will focus on God’s purpose in marriage and how to create a life of joy together. “The purpose is to heal each other and help each other grow towards wholeness, to recover the original condition given to them by God at birth,” said Hendrix. “(Attendees) will learn that marriage has this healing power and they will learn how to access and use that power.”
Hendrix is the author of “ Getting the Love You Want: A Guide for Couples” and “Keeping the Love You Find: A Personal Guide,” both New York Times best sellers. He is a favored guest of Oprah Winfrey’s televised show, having logged over 17 guest appearances and was dubbed the “marriage whisperer” in a November 2005 issue of her popular magazine.
The seminar, scheduled from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., will introduce concepts from the new faith-based program co-created by Hendrix and his wife, Helen LaKelly Hunt, Ph.D. The program, “A New Way to Love” was developed specifically for Christian couples and is available on DVD for group or at home study. While conflict, negativity and disconnection may contribute to today’s high divorce rate, Hendrix believes that learning a new way to talk and listen along with tapping the faith that Christian couples have can overcome marital difficulties.“Faith is essential to trust that God is at work in the deepest conflict, the darkest night, and trusting the process that God has created will lead eventually to experience the light of his love,” said Hendrix.
