May Community Center Trips
Sign-up for September trips begins Friday, August 1 at 8:30 a.m. First-come, first-served reservations for all trips must be made in person at the Center.
Tuesday, August 12 at 8:30 a.m. — Sam Houston Boat Tour, Houston. Cost is $4 per person. Lunch is on your own at Brady’s Landing.
Tuesday, August 26 at 9 a.m. — Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, Houston. Cost is $2 per person. Lunch is on your own at Cleburne Cafeteria.
Saturday, September 13 at 7:30 a.m. — Kolache Festival, Caldwell, Texas. Cost is $2 per person. Lunch is on your own at the Festival.
Wednesday, September, 17 at 7 a.m. — Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center, Orange, Texas. Cost is $10 per person. Lunch is on your own at Star and Crescent Moon Café.
Transportation is limited to individuals 50 years of age and better and is provided through Harris County Precinct 4’s Senior Adult Program.
Advanced registration is required for the craft classes marked with an asterisk (*). Supply sheets are available at the Center or online at www.hcp4.net/ccenters.
Monthly Luncheon: All-You-Can-Eat Catfish and Shrimp Fry Featuring Beach Blanket Bingo!

We’re bringing back the days of Frankie Avalon’s and Annette Funicello’s 1965 hit movie, Beach Blanket Bingo, with a little twist! Dress the part in your favorite beachwear and enjoy a swimming combination of bingo and a lunch buffet. Catfish on Wheels sails into Huffman with all-you-can-eat fried catfish, shrimp, french fries, hush puppies, coleslaw, and beans. A $12 suggested donation is requested and payable in advance when you register. Advanced registration is required. Sign up today at May Community Center.
Craft: Fall Welcome Sign, Parts 1 and 2
Tuesdays, August 5 and 12 at 10 a.m.
Complete this wooden sign in time to decorate your yard or garden in celebration of the fall season. A $5 suggested donation covers the cost of the wooden sign and additional supplies.
Fund-Raiser Quilting Workday
Friday, August 8 at 10 a.m.
Do you enjoy quilting? Are you interested in volunteering for a great cause? If so, plan to join the May Quilters to help sew quilts and other fabric art to sell at the Center’s 2008 fund-raiser. No experience necessary, just a willing spirit. All supplies are provided.
Parent/Child Monthly Story Time: The Pig in the Spigot by Richard Wilbur

Create a lasting memory with a child at May Community Center’s monthly parent/child story time. A Center volunteer makes the story come alive, transporting listeners into a world of fantasy. Plan to stay after the story for a craft and snack. A $1 per child suggested donation helps defray the cost of snacks and additional supplies. Please note: An adult must accompany children under the age of 18.
Gardening Program: Nature’s Emerald Gem – Fabulous Ferns

Learn more about his hardy perennial and welcome volunteer Irma Kornegay, local fern expert and Dayton native, as she shares her extensive knowledge and experience propagating and

Family Movie Day: Ratatouille

Enjoy an afternoon at the movies right in your own backyard! May Center is hosting a family movie day featuring the 2007 film Ratatouille.
Of course, freshly popped popcorn and beverages will be served. Plan to make a fun movie-related craft. Also, if you desire, bring a comfortable lawn chair or two. You won’t want to miss this great show! Call or come by the Center to sign up.

Wondering what your old treasures could be worth? Bring your family heirlooms, yard sale bargains, or salvaged items to learn the fascinating truth about your finds. (Only two items per person.)
A $3.50 suggested donation helps defray the cost of food. We need to know by Monday, August 18 if you are coming so “we can let them know in Idaho” just how many “bakers we need”.
