Local Businesses Come Together to Hold the Third Annual Picnic on the Park

Plans are now underway for the Third Annual Picnic on the Park to be held Saturday, April 15th, from 10 am to 5 pm in Town Center Park, Kingwood.  “It is truly a collaborative effort,” explained event committee member Carla Alvarez of Legacy Marketing Services.  “All of the contributions, donations, and participation by area businesses make the event successful.”

In addition to the free Easter egg hunt in the morning from 10 am to noon, other activities include game booths sponsored by businesses.  “Business owners enjoy the opportunity to have the personal contact and give back to the community,” Alvarez explains.  “There are businesses that come back every year to do the same game booth.  The Pirates on the Park fishing booth sponsored by Pirates Cove Car Wash and All Star Pools’ booth with the live ducklings have been favorites since the first year.”  Game booth tickets will be on sale the day of the event, as well as wristbands for all day play.

Adults will enjoy the craft and vendor fair with a wide selection of unique items.  “Each year the vendor fair has grown in the number and quality of exhibitors,” stated the vendor coordinator, Anna Campbell of Humble Print and Fold.  “This year especially we have a large number of artists and crafters with handmade items you won’t find anywhere else.”

A new addition to the day’s festivities is the Ladies Luncheon and Easter Bonnet Contest.  Catered by Carraba’s, the luncheon will be held at the Heritage Center from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm.  Attendees are encouraged to come in their Easter bonnet best.  Adding to the fete will be a spring fashion show by Best Kept Secrets and presentation by motivational speaker Don Akers.

Prizes will be given for the best Easter bonnet in the following categories: Judges’ Favorite; Most Festive; Most Creative; and “You’ve Got to be Kidding Me!”  Awards will also be given for groups of five or more for Judges’ Favorite, Largest Group, and Most Creative.  The winners will be announced at 3:00 pm in Town Center Park.

Luncheon tickets are $25. Reserved tables are also available.  To purchase individual or group tickets, call 713.289.0819.  The luncheon is sponsored by Amaryllis Florist, fogtnotes.com, and QLS Family Fitness.

The 2006 Picnic on the Park is sponsored by Apple Moving, The Observer Papers, Dawn Bajalieh with RE/MAX Associates NE, Humble Print and Fold LLC, Legacy Marketing Services, fogtnotes.com, Kingwood Now, Occasions of Kingwood, Jump Town and Social Sense.  All proceeds from the event benefit the Village Learning and Achievement Center.

Sponsorships and vendor opportunities are still available.  A rain date is scheduled for April 22nd. For more information, call 713-289-0819 or visit www.picniconthepark.com
