Students from other nations will share their native culture, foods, dance and arts with others in a week-long celebration when Lone Star College-Kingwood honors International Education Week, Nov. 16-20.

Throughout the week, various works of art celebrating the international theme and other cultural exhibits will be on display in the Student Center/Fine Arts Building. Campus festivities begin on Monday with a special kick-off celebration beginning at noon on the SFA patio. Mariachi Calmecac will perform and a variety of snacks and drinks will be available for free.  At 1:00 p.m. in SFA 125/126, a cake and punch reception will follow a short program featuring a welcome by Dr. Katherine Persson, president of LSC-Kingwood, and a representative from the City of Houston. Student displays will also be presented in the SFA Atrium and International Hall of Flags.

LSC-Kingwood’s popular “KingWorld Festival” returns on Tuesday, Nov. 17, incorporating cultural exhibits, food and music beginning at 10 a.m. at the SFA Outdoor Commons.  The event will feature live entertainment by the Karina Nistal Band.

On Wednesday, Nov. 18, more than 100 students, their families, and staff members at LSC-Kingwood will share dishes from one another’s countries at the annual ethnic dinner and celebration beginning at 6 p.m. that evening in the Student Center/Fine Arts Building dining area. Gypsy Dance theater will perform for the crowd beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The week culminates with a closing ceremony beginning at 11:30, which will include exhibits, food, music, and a presentation about Iran by Masoud Shafiei, director of the LSC-Kingwood Intensive English Program, and his wife, Alice Savage.
