May Community Center's free intergenerational programs are part of Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner Jerry Eversole's educational and recreational commitment to Harris County residents. May Community Center is a Precinct 4 community center located at 2100 Wolf Road, Huffman 77336. Center hours are Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

For more information regarding classes or other Center programs, please call (281) 324-3373 or visit www.hcp4.net/ccenters. Harris County Precinct 4 programs serve people of all ages, regardless of socioeconomic level, race, color, sex, religions, national origin, or physical ability. Anyone requiring special assistance to participate in any program should contact May Community Center. An adult must accompany children under the age of 18.

May Community Center Trips

Sign-up for the March trips begins Friday, February 5 at 8:30 a.m. First-come, first-served reservations for all trips must be made in person at the Center.

  • Saturday, March 6 at 4:30 p.m. — A Glenn Miller Orchestra Experience, Cypress Creek Foundation for the Arts and Community Enrichment,Spring. Cost is $32 per person. Dinner is on your own at Luby’s Cafeteria.
  • Thursday, March 25 at 8:30 a.m. — The Monastery Miniature Horse Farm, Brenham. Cost is $5 per person. Lunch is on your own at Must Be Heaven Sandwich Shoppe.

Transportation is limited to individuals 50 years of age and better, and is provided through Harris County Precinct 4’s Senior Adult Program.
Advance registration is required for the craft classes marked with an asterisk (*). Supply sheets are available at the Center or online at www.hcp4.net/ccenters.

Craft: Valentine Picture Frame*

Tuesday, February 2 at 10 a.m.
Keep your valentine memories close to your heart with this decorative picture frame. A $2 suggested donation helps defray the cost of additional supplies.

Cooking Class: Simply Sweet Treats*

Thursday, February 4 at 9:30 a.m.
The celebration of Valentine’s Day in the month of February is associated with passion, romance, love, and sweets! Join in the fun as our volunteer instructor transforms simple ingredients into tasty “sweet” treats. A $3 suggested donation helps defray the cost of ingredients and provides samples.

Informational Program: 2010 U.S. Census Awareness

Thursday, February 4 at 10 a.m.
In March 2010, census forms will be delivered to everyone via U.S. Mail or by a visit from a census taker. It’s important to realize that participation in the Census isn’t just important — it’s mandatory. Ida Love, Partnership Specialist with the U.S. Census Bureau, explains the form in detail through a short video and PowerPoint presentation. A short question-and-answer period will follow the presentation. Door prizes will also be offered to those in attendance. For more information or to sign up, please call the Center.

Monthly Luncheon Featuring May’s Way Off Broadway Productions

Friday, February 5 at 11 a.m.
May Center’s very own adult theatre group, May’s Way Off Broadway Productions, proudly presents Thanks for the Memories Review during this month’s luncheon. Sit back and reminisce about swing bands, rock-and-roll, country music, and good old family slapstick comedy of eras past as this talented group of thespians take a walk down memory lane. Feast on fried chicken along with several mouth-watering sides, iced tea, coffee, and strawberry shortcake for a $5 suggested donation, which is appreciated but never required. (Donations help defray the cost of food for this event.) Advance registration for the luncheon is required by Tuesday, February 2.

Craft: Chocolate Candy Treats*

Tuesday, February 9 at 10 a.m.
Make some sweets to share with your sweetie this Valentine’s Day. A $5 suggested donation helps defray the cost of additional supplies.
Children’s Story Time: Somebody Loves You, Mr. Hatch by Eileen Spinelli Tuesday, February 9 at 10 a.m.
Create a lasting memory with a child at May Community Center’s children’s story time. A Center volunteer makes the story come alive, transporting listeners into a world of fantasy. Plan to stay after the story for a craft and snack. A $1 per child suggested donation helps defray the cost of snacks and additional supplies. An adult must accompany children under the age of 18.

Fund-Raiser Quilting Workday

Friday, February 12 at 1 p.m.
Are you interested in volunteering for a great cause? If so, plan to join the May Friendship Group the second Friday of every month to help sew quilts and other fabric art to sell at the Center’s 2010 fund-raiser. No experience is necessary, just a willing spirit. All supplies are provided.

Craft: Happy Trails Sign*

Tuesday, February 16 at 10 a.m.
This cute wooden sign with a western motif reminds you to stay on a happy trail. A $6 suggested donation helps defray the cost of additional supplies. Class size is limited.

Fat Tuesday Biscuit and Gravy Breakfast

Tuesday, February 16 at 9 a.m.
Follow the aroma to May Center where a delicious biscuit and gravy breakfast is being served! This special breakfast includes flaky biscuits, a variety of jams and jellies, creamy gravy, freshly brewed coffee, and juice. A $2 suggested donation helps defray the cost of food.Sign up today by calling or visiting the Center.

Salad and Spud Meet and Greet Luncheon

Wednesday, February 17 at 11:30 a.m.
The Center’s salad and spud luncheon is a perfect way to meet others in the community while enjoying a generous-sized, oven-baked potato with all the trimmings. The luncheon menu also includes fresh green salad, dessert, iced tea, and coffee. A $4 suggested donation helps defray the cost of food.

Gardening Program: Mulch and Organic Gardening

Thursday, February 18 at 10 a.m.
Organic gardening is growing in popularity and although this technique traditionally has been limited to backyard gardens, commercial organic farms now exist in some states. Join Master Gardener Jan Ferfer as she shares the benefits of organic gardening and mulching, and explains how organic gardening and the use of mulch can assist plants in even more ways.

Fund-Raiser Craft Workday

Tuesday, February 23 at 10 a.m.
Enjoy making crafts? Interested in volunteering for a great cause? If so, plan to join the May Crafters, a “crafty” bunch of folks, to help make a variety of craft items to sell at the Center’s 2010 fund-raiser. No experience is necessary, just a willing spirit. All supplies are provided.
