Several outings are planned over the next several months including the Houston Air Show. Transportation is provided for adults 50 and over.
There is something planned for everyone with children's storytimes, theatre productions, and personal development and information seminars scheduled.
May Community Center Trips
Sign-up for October trips begins Friday, September 4 at 8:30 a.m. First-come, first-served reservations for all trips must be made in person at the Center.
Friday, October 16 at 9:30 a.m. — The Dump and Garden Ridge Pottery, Houston. Cost is $2 per person. Lunch is on your own at the Cracker Barrel.
Saturday, October 31 at 9:30 a.m. — Wings Over Houston 25th Airshow, Houston. Cost is $17 per person. Concession lunch is on your own.
Transportation is limited to individuals 50 years of age and better, and is provided through Harris County Precinct 4’s Senior Adult Program.
Advance registration is required for the craft classes marked with an asterisk (*). Supply sheets are available at the Center or online at www.hcp4.net/ccenters.

Fund-Raiser Craft Workday
Tuesdays, September 1, 8, 15 and 29 at 10 a.m.
Do you enjoy crafts? Are you interested in volunteering for a great cause? If so, plan to enjoy the May Crafters, a “crafty” bunch of folks to make a variety of craft items to sell at the Center’s 2009 fund-raiser, which is scheduled for Saturday, October 3. No experience is necessary, just a willing spirit. All supplies are provided.
Children’s Story Time: Bear Feels Sick by Karma Wilson
Thursday, September 8 at 10 a.m.
Create a lasting memory with a child at May Community Center’s children’s story time. A Center volunteer makes the story come alive, transporting listeners into a world of fantasy. Plan to stay after the story for a craft and snack. A $1 per child suggested donation helps defray the cost of snacks and additional supplies. An adult must accompany children under the age of 18.
Healthy Living: Spa Facial
Tuesday, September 8 at 7 p.m.
Mary Kay® beauty consultants share their expertise in a three-step, hands-on facial program that includes cleansing, moisturizing, and either a daytime or nighttime solution. Square Dancing Fun Nights and Beginning Lessons
Fun Nights: Tuesdays, September 8 and 15 at 7:30 p.m.
Beginning Lessons: Tuesdays, September 22 through December 15 at 7:30 p.m.

Cooking Class: Basic Cake Decorating
Wednesday, September 9; Thursdays, September 17 and 24; and Friday September 25 at 9:30 a.m.
Attend this four-day course in basic cake decorating to learn how to create beautiful and great tasting cakes. Due to space, this class is limited to the first six students to sign up. Fund-Raiser Quilting Workday
Friday, September 11 at 1 p.m.
Are you interested in volunteering for a great cause? If so, plan to join the May Friendship Group the second Friday of every month to help sew quilts and other fabric art to sell at the Center’s 2009 fund-raiser. No experience is necessary, just a willing spirit. All supplies are provided.
Children’s Painting Class: Fall or Halloween Flower Pots
Mondays, September 14, 21, and 28, and October 5 at 5 p.m.
The first 12 children, ages 10 and older, to sign up will get to welcome the fall season by painting this adorable set of three flower pots. Choose from a fall or Halloween design (available at the Center for viewing) to decorate your favorite place in the home or garden. A one-time project fee of $10 helps defray the cost of the required supplies. Salad and Spud Luncheon Featuring May’s Way Off Broadway Productions in Thanks for the Memories
Wednesday, September 16 at 11 a.m.
Welcome May Center’s very own adult theatre group, May’s Way Off Broadway Productions, as they proudly present Thanks for the Memories. The Center’s salad and spud luncheon is a perfect way to meet others in the community while enjoying a generous-sized, oven-baked potato with all the trimmings. The luncheon menu also includes fresh green salad, dessert, iced tea, and coffee. A $4 suggested donation helps defray the cost of food. Advance reservations are necessary by Monday, September 14. Informational Program: All About “Churches United In Caring (CUIC)

Churches United In Caring, or CUIC as it is commonly known, began in 1983 as a result of several churches coming together to form a united source of area assistance. The current CUIC vice president discusses the CUIC Thrift Shop, and the treasures that can be found there, as well as the Assistance Center and Food Pantry that serve people in need from the Barrett Station, Crosby, and Huffman communities. TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Texas #1241 of Huffman is calling all current, past, and future members together for a delicious morning brunch. Learn how TOPS can help you meet your weight loss goals and live a healthier lifestyle through their group support approach.
