May Community Center's free intergenerational programs are part of Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner Jerry Eversole's educational and recreational commitment to Harris County residents. May Community Center is a Precinct 4 community center located at 2100 Wolf Road, Huffman 77336. Please note: In observance of the Christmas holidays, May Community Center closes Wednesday, December 23 at 5 p.m. and reopens Monday, December 28 at 8 a.m. Also, in observance of New Year’s Day, the Center closes Thursday, December 31 at 5 p.m. and reopens Monday, January 4, 2010 at 8 a.m. Harris County Precinct 4 programs serve people of all ages, regardless of socioeconomic level, race, color, sex, religions, national origin, or physical ability.
Anyone requiring special assistance to participate in any program should contact May Community Center. An adult must accompany children under the age of 18.
May Community Center Trips
Sign-up for the January trips begins Friday, December 4 at 8:30 a.m. First-come, first-served reservations for all trips must be made in person at the Center.
· Thursday, January 7 at 10 a.m. — Steamboat House, Houston. Cost is $2 per person. Lunch is on your own at The Great Texas Steakhouse.
· Thursday, January 21 at 8:30 a.m. — Clayton Library and Glenwood Cemetery Tour, Houston. Cost is $17 per person. Lunch is on your own at James Coney Island.
Transportation is limited to individuals 50 years of age and better, and is provided through Harris County Precinct 4’s Senior Adult Program.

Cooking Class: Chinese Vegetarian Cuisine

Learn how to transform tasteless textured vegetable protein (TVP) into a delicious dish. Be pleasantly surprised to find that a vegetarian diet can still provide high protein, be low in fat, and tasty. A $3 suggested donation helps defray the cost of ingredients and provides samples. Children’s Story Time: Where, Oh Where, Is Santa Claus? By Lisa Wheeler

Create a lasting memory with a child at May Community Center’s children’s story time. A Center volunteer makes the story come alive, transporting listeners into a world of fantasy. Plan to stay after the story for a craft and snack. A $1 per child suggested donation helps defray the cost of snacks and additional supplies. An adult must accompany children under the age of 18.
Crafter’s Cookie Exchange and Holiday Luncheon

It’s a cookie lover’s dream and makes holiday entertaining a breeze! Using a favorite recipe, participants bake six dozen cookies. One dozen is enjoyed at the cookie exchange, while the other five dozen are divided and taken home to enjoy during the holidays. Each participant should remember to bring a copy of their recipe since part of the fun is exchanging recipes as well as cookies. After the cookie swap, stay to make a seasonal craft and enjoy a delicious lunch, all of which is provided by the May Crafters in celebration of the season.
Quilters Holiday Luncheon and Party

Join the May Quilters as they celebrate the season with a holiday party. Please bring a favorite dish with enough to share and sample.Each guest is also asked to bring a quilting notion (not to exceed $5) for a white elephant gift exchange. This event is for anyone who quilts or wants participate in the festivities. Sign up now and enjoy some old-fashioned holiday fellowship and fun!
Scrapbook Design: Christmas Layout

Now is the time to create the perfect layout that captures the magic of the season. Once the holiday rush is over, simply insert your favorite photos and enjoy them for years to come. If possible, please bring double-sided adhesive and scissors. An $8 suggested donation,payable at registration, is requested to cover the cost to make the 12-inch x 12-inch double page layout.
