Kingwood TX : Pets will now have a festival to call their own with the first annual Kingwood Barktoberfest to be held Saturday, October 6th, from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm at Kingwood Town Center Park. Pooches and their parents can enjoy a fun-filled day of activities which will include a costume contest, pet photography, flyball and agility demonstrations and more!
In addition to the festivities, the event, sponsored by VCA Kingwood Animal Hospital, Pampered Paws Boutique of Kingwood and Urban Paws magazine of Houston, will spotlight and promote the various rescue groups and shelters in the North Houston area. “The rescues and shelters work year-round to help homeless and neglected animals,” explained Jamie Bakke, event organizer and owner of Pampered Paws Boutique. “We want to recognize and support those efforts.”
The event has been enthusiastically received by the area rescue groups. Twyla’s Friends will be holding an adoption day at the event. AABY will be providing “doggy” snocones and a cooling off station. The Westie Rescue of Houston will be at the event to provide information on their services as well as other Houston area rescue groups.
Top Dog Sponsor, VCA Kingwood Animal Hospital, will be on hand the day of the event and will be providing low cost microchipping for $19.99. Demonstrations will include agility exhibitions from Southpaw Obedience Training and grooming demonstrations by Kingwood Kennels. Attending to the dirty details is K9Valet with pooper scooper services and potty area.

The “Howlin’ Hounds Walk” costume contest and parade will begin at noon and is open to anyone who wishes to participate. Entries for the costume contest and parade will be accepted between 10:00 am and 11:30 am.
A silent auction and raffles will provide a chance for everyone to win some great items donated by area businesses.
The day will culminate in the selection of the event beneficiary. “We are inviting all of the pet rescue groups to participate in the event,“ stated Jennifer Tran of Urban Paws magazine. “At the end of the day, we will draw the name of the group to receive the proceeds of the event.”
