Tasting the Town Announces "Tasty Awards" and Celebrity Judges

tasting the town

The Annual Coffee News Tasting The Town event on October 15th at the Humble Civic Center will feature fun for event-goers as well as some local celebrities, event organizers announced this week. Attendees will have the chance to sample top menu items and beverages from over 40 local restaurants, caterers, wineries and more - and will be given the opportunity to vote when leaving the event for their favorite entrée, dessert, beverage and more.

"It's the perfect way for the community to give immediate feedback to the participating restaurants and vendors," commented event founder Jennifer Jozwiak. "It's also sure to stimulate some friendly competition among the participants," she added. After the voting has been completed; the winners will be rewarded with a coveted "Tasty Award" to proudly display in their restaurant - giving them bragging rights in that category - at least until the next year's event!

"This year; a special feature will be a few local celebrities who will be judging the category of "Best Decorated or Themed Booth," said Tiffany Bauer of Power Promotions; who is helping with the planning and promotion of the event. Dr. Guy Sconzo, the Superintendent of Humble ISD; Dan Huberty, the current president of the Humble ISD Board of Trustees and candidate for State Representative; and Gwendolyn Condoleo, Northeast Neighborhood Liaison for the City of Houston's Mayors office will be ringing in their opinions on the event participants this year. The judges will also be awarding a prize to the most creative table top decoration - as local businesses who do not have food to serve will be hosting tables at which event goers will sit to eat - creatively decorating the table with their information to entertain guests while they rest their legs.

A portion of the proceeds from this event will benefit Including Kids, Inc., an autism support center located in Atascocita. "Including Kids has close ties with Humble ISD; working to integrate their students into a mainstream classroom situation, so it's gratifying for us to have some representation from the school district supporting, enjoying and judging our event," said Jozwiak, whose own relationship with Humble ISD goes many years back - her father worked for the district for nearly 20 years, and she is a graduate of Humble High School.

Participating restaurants and vendors include such community favorites as Mission Burrito, HEB's Café on the Run, Amedeo's, Rico's Grill, Raffa's and Carino's - as well as specialty offerings like the "Beer Bistro Booth" by Anheuser Busch, offering food and beer pairings by a local chef; and a McCafe Lounge by McDonalds featuring their upscale espresso based coffee beverages. "Booth space for the event is about 70% sold out, but there is still availability for both restaurants and non-food related businesses to participate," said Bauer. Sponsorships are being accepted through September 30th, and there are still several tables available for businesses who want to decorate and display their marketing creatively.

Businesses interested in participating and individuals interested in attending this annual community event should visit www.TastingTheTown.com for more information or to purchase event tickets; which are on sale now through the day of the event. Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door (children 5 & under are free) - and also may be purchased in advance at the Kingwood and Atascocita HEB store locations or the Atascocita Mission Burrito.
