As spring rounds the corner, families in the Northeast Houston area are preparing for Easter.  Easter egg hunts, spring flings, and community festivals are on the schedule.  So grab your Easter basket and bonnet and get ready for some fun!

Temple Beth Torah will celebrate the holiday of Passover with a seder, the traditional festival meal, on Monday, April 18, 2011. The community seder will be led by Rabbi Dan Gordon, of Temple Beth Torah.

Seder is a word that means "order," and there are several rituals throughout the evening to help teach the story of the Exodus from Egypt. Gordon will tell the story of Passover using the traditional book called the Haggadah, enhancing the rituals with a variety of stories and teachings. It is an evening filled with fun and learning for all ages.

Kingwood residents will have an opportunity to celebrate the coming of spring at the 2011 Mardi Gras Festival  in the Kingwood Town Center Park.  The event will be held from noon to 6:00 pm.  Admission is free and is open to all, both Kingwoodites and nonresidents.    

Spend the day browsing the booths of various vendors and businesses and enjoying the fun foods.  The Tommy Darder Band will beplaying from 3:00 pm to close.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints invites you to attend the 13th Annual Kingwood Nativity Exhibit and Music Festival .  As in past years, hundreds of nativity sets will be on display and local music groups will perform.

 

The photo room will also be available for visitors to have their photo taken in a life-size stable wearing Nativity costumes.  Children’s activities will include a “Find the Star” activity and a room featuring children’s style nativity collections.

On August 7th, the Kingwood/Humble community will join together with hundreds of others to help assist the family of 16-yr-old Rachel Zientek, with their mounting medical expenses as she fights to recover from a fiery plane crash in Alaska that has left her with burns on a large percentage of her body and other very serious injuries.

Her father, Officer Mike Zientek, has taking time off as a Houston police officer (who serves Kingwood/Forest Cove) to be with Rachel in Seattle, where she was in serious condition at the burn intensive care unit of Harborview Medical Center. She was moved to Houston this past week where she will likely remain in the hospital for two to three months, and undergo in-patient rehabilitation.

Join the Easter festivities on Saturday, April 3rd, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm in Town Center Park, Kingwood, for the Seventh Annual Picnic on the Park.
Families and friends come together and enjoy a day at the park with a full day of fun featuring a street fair, food booths, petting zoo, games, and entertainment. Admission is free. Game booth tickets will be available for $1 each or $15 for a wristband for all day play.

Tweens and teens are not forgotten with an action packed “Teen Zone” with a rock wall, adunk tank with local youth leaders a sitting ducks, basketball and baseball challenge where aspirants can test their skills. “Jello Wars” will make a return this year where teams battle for domination in a game of tug-of-war.

The Kingwood/Humble Area Aggie Moms club is pleased to announce that the world-famous Texas A&M Singing Cadets will be in the Kingwood community to present a special concert this spring. 


The Singing Cadets is an all-male student organization from Texas A&M University and was first established in 1893. The choral group’s concerts consist of traditional school songs as well as religious, patriotic, Broadway, popular and novelty numbers.
