Harris County Precinct 4’s Senior Adult Program (SAP) is hosting a Fat Tuesday Mardi Gras Dance Tuesday, February 16 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Humble Civic Center, 8233 Will Clayton Parkway. The afternoon dance for adults, ages 50 and better, features entertainment by the River Road Boys. Light refreshments will be served, but alcohol is not permitted at county-sponsored functions.

Tickets and reservations are required for admission; tickets are $7 per person and can be ordered by calling Precinct 4’s Senior Adult Program at (281) 893-3726, extension 47. SAP events are part of Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner Jerry Eversole’s educational and recreational commitment to Harris County residents.

Internationally acclaimed marriage expert and best-selling author Harville Hendrix, Ph. D., will conduct a 3-hour seminar entitled, “A New Way to Love: Living God’s Purpose for Your Marriage” on Friday, February 5 at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Kingwood.

The special appearance by Hendrix, a Clinical Pastoral Counselor, will focus on God’s purpose in marriage and how to create a life of joy together. “The purpose is to heal each other and help each other grow towards wholeness, to recover the original condition given to them by God at birth,” said Hendrix. “(Attendees) will learn that marriage has this healing power and they will learn how to access and use that power.”

A service in the style of Taizé (Teh-ZAY) is offered at 6:30 p.m. on the second Sunday of every month at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Kingwood. 

The Taizé style of Christian worship originated in an ecumenical religious community in the village of Taizé, France. With meditative singing, brief scripture readings, simple prayers, and periods of silence, Taizé helps to quiet the mind, open the heart, and feed the soul.

In An Advent Who’s Who the Rev. William T. Richter, Jr. will present the major figures, personalities and characters that were a part of the birth of Jesus–Wednesdays at 7:15 p.m., December 2-23.

Cookies and tee under the tree

Within the past few days a core group of Kingwood/ Humble area community leaders have stepped up and brainstormed a unique fundraising community event. The Inaugural “Cookies and Tea under the Tree” will be a cookie exchange festival for families of all ages. This event will be an added activity at the Tree Lighting at Town Center on December 5th.

The purpose of this event is to embrace the local families and business community and to offer a new and different event while raising funds for an annual revolving list of charitable organizations during the holiday season. This is the first annual event and the charity it will be benefiting is Family Time.
