Expert and beginner artists can learn how to preserve the beauty of Mercer through art with awardwinning Kingwood artist Betsy Barry Friday, July 29 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Barry will demonstrate how to create images of collected subject matter in graphite and colored pencil during this Drawing from the Garden class.
A member of the American Society of Botanical Artists and the Colored Pencil Society of America, Barry specializes in drawing local plants from her home studio in Kingwood. Recently, one of her pieces, "Macular Pomifera Osage Orange," was accepted into the U.S. Botanic Garden's art show commemorating the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service, Flora of the National Parks in Washington D.C. Her artwork has also been displayed in London at the annual SBA Exhibition at Westminster Central Hall and the SBA Distance Learning booth at the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) exhibition.
