Chorale Ends 26th Season with "Songs of North America" Concert
Many Americans have a rich and diverse heritage with ancestors hailing from various parts of the world.  As waves of immigrants moved to the United States and Canada, they brought the music of their culture with them – ranging from folk songs to sacred and patriotic music.
That music melded with other music to create the variety of music that exists in North America today.

The Kingwood Chorale and guests will share that variety in a special “Songs of North America” concert on April 17 and 18 at 7:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Kingwood. At that concert, the Kingwood Chorale will be joined by members of the Lone Star College-Kingwood Concert Choir and the First Presbyterian Chancel Choir who will be singing this repertoire on tour in Eastern Canada in June.  “I love American music, and I love the incredible variety of music in America and Texas. This concert will feature music from the great state of Texas, as well as selected songs from the rest of America and Canada,” said artistic director and conductor Todd Miller.

The concert will also feature local composer and pianist John Cornelius, who has written several folk song arrangements for the concert and the tour.  According to Miller, “John Cornelius is a rising star in the composing world, and he writes music that people love to hear. Having him present to perform with us, both in Kingwood and in Canada, will be a special treat.” LSC-Kingwood music faculty member Aaron Martinez will also be featured accompanying the choir on saxophone, clarinet, and flute.

In addition to folk songs, the concert will feature melodic and resonant sacred music, as the touring choir will perform in the greatest cathedrals in Eastern Canada, from the Notre Dame Basilica and the L’Oratoire Saint Joseph Church in Montreal to the Shrine of St. Anne de Beaupré on the Beaupré coast northeast of Quebec City. The choir will also sing at the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa and have prepared a “Songs of War and Remembrance” section for the concert as well.
