Precinct 4 Commissioner R. Jack Cagle’s Jesse H. Jones Park & Nature Center recently hosted its annual Homestead Heritage Day, typically held the first Saturday each February, which features various family-friendly historical activities and demonstrations dating back to the early 19th century.
Nearly 1,400 park visitors enjoyed games, old-fashioned foods, re-enactments and music throughout the day. Another popular attraction is the park’s Akokisa Indian Village, living-quarter replicas from the early 18th century Akokisa Indians who once lived in the vicinity of Jones Park along Spring Creek.
