Fishermen are notorious for talking about "the one that got away."
Not so for Kingwood couple Dennis and Melanie Fikes who won the first place award in the 5th event of the 2008 season for the Southeast Region The 2 of Us Couples Fishing Tournament on May 4th at Lake Sam Rayburn. Competing in a field of 42 couples, their impressive five fish stringer weighed 21.59 pounds.
In addition, they won the Ladies and Mens Big Bass Awards. Melanie's Big Bass weighed 7.61 pounds and Dennis boasted a 7.78 pounder.
Their efforts were rewarded with $287 for the Big Bass award and $574 for First Place in addition to $100 in side pot monies.
The Fikes are sponsored by Skeeter Boats and Geneva Enterprises. As they are registered with the Skeeter Reel Money program, they are also eligible for Skeeter Bonus Money.
Their outstanding efforts placed Dennis and Melanie Fike in the lead for the coveted Anglers of the Year race.
