Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner Jerry Eversole is pleased to announce the completion of a “play garden” at May Park, 2100 Wolf Rd., Huffman 77336. Residents are invited to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony Wednesday, August 19 at 9:30 a.m. to celebrate the new play features of this amenity.
In 2008, a walking trail, an additional rest room facility, and a water spray feature were installed at May Park as part of a two-phase improvement project. The second phase of the improvement project is now complete and features a unique, futuristic play area surrounded by six pod-style stations that integrate standard and transitional playground elements including climbing rocks and statuesque animals.
The main play structure is shaded by durable fabric that blocks 90 percent of UV rays and each pod, connected by sidewalks and walking trails, serves a different age group. Additionally, the May Community Center Advisory Council raised $5,000 to build a small picnic pavilion near the new playground.
The first phase of construction, awarded to All Play, Inc., cost $95,000 and was funded through Precinct 4’s general fund. The second phase of the project, which also cost $95,000, was paid for using park bond funds approved by voters in 2007. Phase II was awarded to Miracle Recreation Equipment.
“Using an open concept design, this new playground incorporates one-of-a-kind activities for the children in this community,” offered Commissioner Eversole.
May Park is a 70-acre facility with five lighted softball fields, one lighted football field near the original playground, a small gazebo with four tables and a barbecue pit, picnic tables, a paved walking trail, and rest room facilities.
