Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner Jerry Eversole thanked members of Be An Angel Fund Inc., Humble Noon Lions Club, Kingwood Medical Center, and Waste Management Friday, June 20 for their additional contributions to Lindsay/Lyons Park, located at 2310 Atascocita Road, Humble.
“These additional donations provide the finishing touches to the original $600,000 playground project. The community should be proud of this accomplishment that was made possible through generous contributions. Walking trails, picnic pavilions, landscaping, and a world-class, all-inclusive playground now make this 3.5-acre area a complete park,” said Commissioner Jerry Eversole.
In 2006, Precinct 4 partnered with the nonprofit group Be An Angel Fund Inc. to create a $600,000 all-inclusive, barrier-free playground and special needs rest room facility at the front of Lindsay/Lyons Park. Numerous associations, clubs, families, individuals, and organizations contributed $300,000 to Be An Angel to provide this one-of-a-kind playground in Precinct 4.
Since the ribbon cutting of the playground in August 2006, Be An Angel has raised an additional $23,500 to provide three 30-seat pavilions, a sensory garden, a donor pavers garden, barbecue pits, and picnic tables. Kingwood Medical Center and Waste Management provided the majority of the funds needed for these amenities, and the Humble Noon Lions Club answered Be An Angel’s call by donating the final $5,000 needed to construct one of three 30-seat pavilions. Precinct 4 parks staff completed a one-third-mile paved trail around the perimeter of the playground earlier this year.
“It is the mission of Be An Angel to improve the quality of life for children with multiple disabilities or profound deafness by providing the essential equipment and services they so deserve and need,” commented Marti Boone, executive director of Be An Angel Fund Inc. “We are pleased to join hands with Harris County Precinct 4 to celebrate a great endeavor of community partnership and goodwill,” Boone said.
The only items remaining on the donation “wish list” are memorial benches, which are made from recycled materials and feature an engraved plaque. Anyone interested in making a donation for a memorial bench can call the Precinct 4 Parks Department at (281) 353-8100 for details.
