Nicos Place Re-Opens with a Cajun Twist

Kingwood, TX:   Old friends and new are celebrating the reopening of Nico’s Place at its new location on Loop 494 in Kingwood, where a new lunch menu features Cajun delectables from Cajun Mama’s and night times feature karaoke and live music dates.

“We’re excited to be welcoming customers back to the club in a beautiful new building that features a sophisticated central bar, dance floor and outdoor terrace.  In addition to live music and special events, such as Martini Monday and karaoke nights featuring DJ Rick Estrada, we are offering a lunch menu with incredible Cajun food from Cajun Mama’s,” says Nico Janssen, who co-owns Nico’s Place with his wife, Meg.

Formerly located in a strip center a few doors down the road, Nico’s Place closed in 2006 when the lease expired.  The Janssen’s, long-time residents of Forest Cove, and their close friends John and Linda Liano of Berwyn, Pennsylvania, immediately began making plans to construct a new nite club on Black Cat Ridge, the Humble area’s historic entertainment strip, which offers a perfect location for unwinding after a day at the office or getting ready for a night on the town.

“We are happy to be back in the same general area but in our own building,” says Meg Janssen. “We’ve designed this new location with our customers in mind, and they love good food, great conversation and a wide variety of music. “

“With a full commercial kitchen, plenty of parking and an expansive area for special outdoor events, we’ve been able to tailor this building to the tastes of our customers, who tend to be a fun-loving, over-35 crowd that enjoys meeting friends for wine, drinks and music,” says Meg, who has overseen much of the construction and decorating.

Offering a contemporary twist on the traditional sports bar or pub theme, Nico’s has a large central bar that seats 30 with four 32-inch TVs and one 52-inch, flat-screen monitor as well as cozy tables along the perimeter of the club for “offline” conversation.  “We now have a nice outdoor terrace as well, for those who want to relax and chat ‘al fresco’,” she adds.

The Janssens also are tailoring their food and drink offerings to their clientele with help from their long-time manager Jennifer Moore.  Nico’s Place features signature cocktails that include the Black Cat Ridge Martini, Nico’s Havana Mojito, Meg’s Spicy Cajun Mary and a nice selection of wines. “We’ve also worked closely with Betty Fortier, owner of the former Cajun Mama’s restaurant in Porter, Texas, to develop a lunch menu that is offered daily,” Meg explains.

Hours for Nico’s Place are 11 am to Midnight, Sunday-Tuesday, and 11 am – 2 am, Wednesday-Saturday.   Cajun Mama’s operates lunch service 11 am – 3 pm Monday-Saturday and brunch on Sunday, 11 am-2 pm.  Evenings at Nico’s Place feature a menu of traditional pub food with a twist, including personal pan pizzas, wings, cheese trays, and gumbo.
