Mercer Botanic Gardens’ east side, which encompasses 20 acres of versatile botanic gardens that showcases the region’s largest collection of native and cultivated plants, is reopening to the public Wednesday, May 25 after being closed more than four weeks due to severe flood damage.

The park’s regularly scheduled programs have also resumed. However, the new Creekside Ramble, primitive loop trails, and Storey Lake will remain closed due to potential hazards from settling silt and an unstable creek bank. Visitors should avoid closed areas as they may contain unexpected hazards.

Staff and volunteers will continue to rebuild trails, plant collections, and structures. Plants affected by the floodwaters may also appear unhealthy. Visitors are asked to be patient as recovery continues.

Mercer was one of the hardest hit parks in Precinct 4 due to its location near Cypress Creek. The property is located in north Harris County, which received rainfall amounts averaging 14 to17 inches.
