The Humble Civic Center reverberated with sounds of food, fun, and entertainment at the Annual Coffee News "Tasting The Town" which was held October 15th. Guests enjoyed food and beverages from over 40 different local establishments.

Attendees were given the opportunity to vote when leaving the event for the "People's Choice" Tasty Awards, which were handed out at the end of the evening. This year's winners are as follows: ·

  • Best Entrée: Texas Roadhouse, for their "Fall-off-the-Bone Ribs"
  • Best Beverage: Tapioca Lounge, for their assorted teas and fantastic fresh smoothies
  • Best Dessert: H.E.B. for their amazing assortment of desserts - but especially the cake.
  • Best Overall: Hector's Mexican Grill & Cantina, for their bacon wrapped shrimp, fajitas, margaritas, fresh made tortillas and Mariachi band

Additional "Judges Choice" awards were given by local celebrity guest judges Dan Huberty (current Humble ISD Board of Trustees President), Gwendolyn Condoleo (Neighborhood Liaison from Mayor Bill White's office) and Dr. Guy Sconzo (Humble ISD Superintendent).

The award for "Most Creative Tabletop" went to Teri Stokes, of KingwoodClowns.com. Teri created an amazing man and woman made entirely of balloons, along with a chandelier to hang above her table!

Hector's Mexican Grill & Cantina was awarded "Best Decorated/Themed Booth", as Señor Campa kept it authentic - constructing a 'mini-restaurant' in his corner of the civic center ballroom - complete with roof, decorations, a lady making fresh tortillas and an award-winning Mariachi band.

Event founder Jennifer Jozwiak of Coffee News was pleased with the turnout and feedback from the event. "The restaurants and vendors that participated were excited to see such a strong turnout, since this event hasn't been a regular occurrence for over 10 years in our community." Tiffany Bauer of Power Promotions, who partnered with Jozwiak in putting the event together commented, "Everyone we spoke to was thrilled with the event, felt they got a great value and said they would come back again next year!"

Both Jozwiak and Bauer also expressed gratitude to Including Kids, Inc; their chosen charity partner whom a portion of the proceeds benefitted. "Without their amazing volunteers, this event never would have been possible," said Bauer.

Tasting The Town will return September 23, 2010 to the Humble Civic Center - with some new and exciting features - including a "Wine Club" hosting wineries & their representatives for both tastings and full glasses; as well as an exclusive Wine Tasting & Dinner that wine enthusiasts won't want to miss!

So what's next for the duo of Jozwiak and Bauer? They are determined to put the Lake Houston Area on the map with a few other events already in development for 2010 in our community including a Lake Houston Area Home and Garden Show and an exciting upscale Wine Walk.
