Volunteers recently gathered at Jesse H. Jones Park & Nature Center to become certified members of the Texas Stream Team, which is a network of training volunteers and partners who work to collect information about the natural resources of Texas.
This training is exclusively offered at Precinct 4’s Jones Park for the Houston-Galveston region.
Attendees learned how to monitor the water quality in local waterways by using chemical reagents to fix and titrate the samples.
Over the course of two years, these individuals will devote two hours at the same time each month to survey their site and examine pH levels, temperature, dissolved oxygen and other water quality indicators.
This essential research allows volunteers to gather data on the quality of water in lakes, rivers and streams to identify any environmental concerns that could interfere with drinking, recreation, fish or wildlife.
If you, or your organization, are interested in caring for Texas waterways, contact Jones Park at 281-446-8588 or visit http://www.hcp4.net/Community/Parks/Jones.
